How I became a girl who wears boots to run all the errands

“Buy a great pair of boots” has been on my mighty list for a good long time now. I’ve bought a few pair of boots since it’s been on there, but they haven’t been great boots. They didn’t fit quite right, maybe, or they weren’t quite as lovely as I wanted them to be. But they were OK, and they were not expensive, so I bought them. And I didn’t love them, and most of them made my feet hurt.

So why did I buy them? Because I am cheap and optimistic, I guess.

I’ve recently learned, though, that cheap and optimistic aren’t a good combination when it comes to acquiring a great pair of boots. Optimistic on its own is fine, but you have to be willing to spend some money.

Unless Country Outfitter asks you to review a pair of boots, in which case you feel like the luckiest girl in the world. And then you immediately start browsing the boots. I love the Old Gringo Sora boot and the Dan Post Blue Birds, but I ended up choosing a pair of Ariat boots called the Heritage X Toes.

And then I sat back and waited.

Last Monday was a busy one for me. We had co-op, Odyssey of the Mind and a few errands to do, so we got home a few hours later than usual. And guess what was waiting on the front porch for me? Boots! I opened the box and put them on immediately. And then I wore them around the house for the rest of the day. And I wore them throughout the next day, too!

I need to vacuum the car. Also, I was in the driveway for both of these pictures. No driving while trying to take pictures of yourself driving, kids!

Things my Ariat boots from Country Outfitter and I did last week

  • Dragged the trash and recycling bins into the garage from the cold, rainy driveway.
  • Washed the dishes a few times.
  • Made tuna-macaroni-peas salad. (Surely there’s an official name for this, but my boots and I don’t know what it is.)
  • Played Zelda and PacMan with Pete.
  • Took Poppy to a playdate; it was my boots’ first time driving.
  • Went to church.
  • Bought groceries.
  • Strolled through nearly every aisle of Toys ‘R’ Us.
  • Took pictures for this year’s Christmas card.
  • That’s a lot of boot-wearing, and I am so pleased to tell you that my Ariats and I are still happy together. Thrilled, even. They’re nearly as comfortable as my sneakers, and they’re one million times more attractive.

    They make me feel great.

I want you to feel great, too, and so does Country Outfitter. So I’m giving I gave away a Country Outfitter gift card for $150! Yay!

    And the winner is …

Butterscotch Sundae friend April! Congratulations, April!

    1. The link to country outfitters for the contest entry is broken! I get a “this is probably not the page you’re looking for” error.

    2. i’d buy the ariat hacienda boots in vintage caramel because i have been drooling over them for months and with a 150 gift card they’re not quite so insane. (i really really hope i win!)

    3. Owning and wearing a pair of cowboy boots have been on my bucket list since we moved to TX over 2 years ago. I’ve always heard they are incredibly comfortable and you have confirmed it. And if I had a pair, then maybe I’d get out of these darn tennis shoes and dress (she says optimistically) a little bit nicer on a daily basis. As to what pair of boots I want? I need a few more hours to peruse the Country Outfitters website and then I’ll get back to you!

    4. man, the first 3 that i really liked weren’t available in my size (it’s hard to be a cowgirl with big feet). but then i found the ariat bellas in black…and then i giggled, because lol bella black on days of our lives. it’s like it was meant to be.

    5. I love the Ariat boots. I can’t decide between red or turquoise!
Your boots look great on you. Casual, yet polished.

    6. I have never owned a pair of cowgirl boots, but since I am now a ‘southern girl’ and my daughter has a really cool pair, I would love them! Looking at the website made me wish for Women’s Yellow/Red/Turquoise Butterfly Boot. Nichole, the boots look great on you!

    7. I would totally get the Corral Grey/Black Sequin Eagle Boots for three reasons:

They are black and grey (no brainer)
      They have sequins (!!!)
I would stand about 6’4″ in those bad boys

    8. Torn between the the Lucchese Chelsea and the Ariat Murrietta. They are fantastic! Glad you are a boot-convert! 😉

    9. Oh man, Nicole, I can totally agree with having “owning a good pair of boots” on your list. I’ve always dreamed of having a nice pair of cowgirl boots too and found myself in a similar boat as the one you describe in your great blog post (which I loved reading!). So many beautiful boots to choose from, but my favorite two are the Women’s Legend Boot – Sassy Brown and the Women’s Legend Boot – Russet Rebel.

    10. I have a brown pair similar to yours, and LOVE them 🙂 now I want the heritage ones in old west black!!

    11. Never had a pair of boots…would find it hard to choose!! I’m thinking something with brown and black so that I could always wear them!!

    12. I really like the ones you picked! I’d probably choose something similar, a nice classic brown boot. Then I could get rid of my imitation, not-very-comfortable cheap boots.

    13. I Love love LOVE the old gringo sora!Way out of my price range, but a girl can dream!

    14. I haven’t had a pair of cowboy boots since I wore them growing up…working with cows! These are a lot more fashionable than the one I had back then. I want the Justin Bay Apache…or the Ariat Women’s Horseman Heritage Post Brown. Addison want’s the Tony Lama Kid’s Carnation Texas Rose 🙂

    15. Oh, I had a pair of awful cowboy boots forever, and I’d love to have nice ones! I loved the Amelia cowboy boots, but if I won the certificate, I’d have to do some serious shopping before choosing.

    16. Cowboys Boots…A Girls Best Friend. I like the Red Ariat boots to become my newest friend!! Thanks for the chance to win!!

    17. I love the Lucchese Women’s Amelia Cowboy Boot. It looks like just the right blend of subdued cowboy and budding pirate. A perfect combo, in my mind… Thank you for such a great giveaway!

    18. I have two pairs of cowboy boots, one very traditional and one more modern. So I would get the Corral Brown Crater Inlay & Studs Boot to add some flair to my collection! Thanks for the giveaway!

    19. I know exactly which boots I’ll get! They’re the Corral
Women’s Distressed Black/Brown Floral Pink Inlay Boots – A1953, I want them for my birthday dress! My birthday is November 27th, but I’m having my get together on the following weekend, and I would just love to have them! And with the discount on my boots, I’ll prob get some for my sister for Christmas! If I win, everyone wins (:

    20. My daughter entered this, just a few minutes ago, so I came to check it out and after reading that you can only win if you’re 18 or older, that she looked over, I’m entering for her! She’s been dying for some new boots!

It would be awesome to get the discount so she can have them for her birthday gathering. I’d get her the exact ones she wanted, The Corral Women’s Distressed Black/Brown Floral Pink Inlay Boots – A1953, and with the $150 discout, I might even get her two, because she really like the Women’s Turquoise/Antique Saddle Eagle Boot – R2265 and the Corral Women’s Floral Black/White Stitch Boot – A1950, maybe all three because she’s not asking for much this year (shocker, right?!), but one will be for Chirstmas! (Hope she doesn’t see this!)

Have a nice day and happy holidays!

    21. I would order whatever my husband wants, who weirdly is the one who pointed me to this post today. I’m not sure if he wants me to have boots or if he wants boots. 😉

    22. I love Country Outfitter boots! I would get the Corral blue boots

    23. i would probably get the ariat fatbaby original in brown rebel, but i WANT the lucchese charcoal and denim hand tooled las cruces. and about 5 others, lol…the fatbaby looks like my peggy hill wide ass feet could love them long time.

    24. Dude! I combed through the men’s boots and ended up with 26 pairs(~$4500) in my cart. It’s currently down to 10. Sooooo….., choosing at random: the Twisted X Western R Toe Distressed Saddle.

So many boots, so few of my feet.

    25. I’ve never felt like I could carry off a pair of boots very well. With that said, I actually GASPED when I saw the Women’s Lucky Boot. The boots on this site are more than boots—they’re like artwork! (Thanks for sharing your day with us!)

    26. I got my first pair of boots just last year. My loving husband got them for me for my 40th birthday. Got me a nice pair of brown Laredo boots. I get more compliments when I wear them. Now I feel the itch to get me another pair, this time in black. But feeling like I want a pair with just alittle more bling. I am really liking the Corral Black-Turoquoise with the wing and cross design. Those are really sharp!
