Let the holiday stress begin

We’re hosting Thanksgiving this year for Rockford’s side of the family, and I’m a little intimidated. His sister is a hostess on a par with Martha Stewart, while I’m considering serving our turkey on Chinet. It’ll be a change of pace, at least.

Also, there will be 18 people in our house. Eighteen people to eat the following:

Main dishes

  • Turkey breast
  • Genia’s ham

    Sides

  • Uncle Jimmy’s mashed potatoes
  • Rockford’s grandmother’s seven-layer salad
  • Green beans w/ shallots and red peppers
  • Chloe’s Jello salad
  • Chloe’s squash casserole
  • Genia’s mac ‘n’ cheese
  • Savory corn cobbler
  • Creamy spinach gratin
  • Sweet Potato Casserole
  • Mushroom gravy
  • Cornbread Stuffing

    Desserts

  • Chloe’s pecan pie
  • Caramel-pumpkin pie

    1. I look forward to some day hosting holiday dinners, but I don’t think it would be reasonable to get all of any side of our family to fly to CA just for dinner.
With the due date just a few days before Thanksgiving, I’m sad we won’t be able to attend a dinner in San Francisco given by a friend of mine from high school, she ordered a heritage turkey and is making it with Alton Brown’s brining recipe (she did the brined turkey last year and it was the best turkey I’ve ever had). With Matthew being allergic to turkey, we’ll pretty much stick to ham!
      Your menu sounds delicious!

    2. That cornbread stuffing will be awesome-er if you add some browned pork sausage and make your cornbread a little sweet.

    3. I’m flattered, and the only reason we don’t always use Dixie Ultra plates here is that I have to justify the china in the cabinets. Now I shall feel I have to live up to the reputation at Christmas. We’re looked forward to be “hosted” in your new home!!
