My interpretation: Too much 'Idol' and ice cream

  • Rockford and I are vacationing in Hawaii. We’re gearing up to go cliff diving with Jason Bateman and Ryan Seacrest. We’re unable to approach the cliff, though, because the Equipment Detector indicates that we aren’t wearing the proper safety gear. I wake up to find that the alarm clock has been buzzing for nearly three minutes.
  • I have concocted a new ice cream flavor. It’s banana ice cream with trail mix mixed in. I call it Monkey Poop. I wake to find Rockford telling me Pete’s awake and I need to get up and shower before he leaves for work. I tell him I dreamed of Monkey Poop.

  • . . . . .

    Dear Monica,
Your baby made you some coffee. Be good to your baby.

Rockford and the technicolor dream job

Scene: In bed. The wee hours. A clatter wakes Nichole.

Nichole, groggily: Rockford? What was that?

Rockford, speaking clearly: Don’t worry. I was just working on that problem.

Nichole works to clear the cobwebs from her brain and sits up. Rockford is on his side, with his hands extended toward his nightstand.

    N: What?

A: I’m working on that problem they gave us last night. Don’t worry.

Nichole realizes Rockford isn’t awake after all. She goes back to sleep. Awhile later — another clatter. Nichole opens her eyes and glances over at Rockford, who is once again hard at work knocking things off his nightstand.

    It's a good thing I don't sleepwalk

Last night I dreamed that my friend Stephanie had us over for a murder-mystery-themed Christmas dinner. I’m a little disappointed that I never made it to the murder-mystery segment of my dream, but I am pleased to be able to share a very special recipe with you. It was presented cooking-show-style in my dream, so you’ll have to make an educated guess on the amounts if you really want to try it.

    Stephanie’s Dreamy Shrimp Casserole
    water
    sugar
    fresh basil
a bunch of large shrimp, peeled and deveined
    butter
    garlic
    more butter
    panko bread crumbs

Place shrimp in a large bowl and set aside.

Combine water and sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly until sugar dissolves to make a simple syrup. Bruise basil leaves and stir into syrup. Bring just to a boil, then pour over shrimp. Marinate shrimp in syrup overnight.

Preheat oven. Butter a large casserole dish. Add some minced garlic. Drain shrimp and line them up in the casserole dish. Top with panko crumbs, more garlic and butter pats. Bake until golden brown and delicious.

As delicious as it looked in my dream, I don’t think I’ll be trying this one at home. I don’t think the syrup/garlic combination is for me, and I’m pretty sure all that cook time would result in some pretty tough shrimp.
