This is why it’s called a blahg

I did write a Menu Plan Monday post for yesterday, but (appropriately enough) the internet seems to have eaten it. So here’s what we’re having this week:

  • Omelets (yesterday)
  • Spaghetti (today)
  • Car picnic (Wednesday)
  • Stir-fried tofu & peppers (Thursday)
  • Pizza (Friday)
  • In other news, I can’t think of anything nice to say about Verizon or headaches this morning, so I’m not going to say anything at all. Just like my mama taught me.

    home/school
This week’s “Five in a Row” book was “When I Was Young in the Mountains” by Cynthia Rylant. It’s set in the Appalachian region years and years and years ago, before electricity, plumbing and, apparently, snake deterrent. Having grown up in the same region — with indoor plumbing, electricity and a dearth of snake sightings, happily — I was pretty excited about exploring its history with Poppy. We listened to a lot of bluegrass this week and read a few Jack tales in addition to our regularly scheduled activities.

I’ve been trying to jot down some notes on each day as we go along, but I didn’t do that very consistently this week. I’m sure you’ll be able to tell on which days I neglected to do it! Here’s what we did this week:

Toy shopping at the drug store

Works-for-Me WednesdayI love CVS. I have great luck finding things in their clearance section, and I usually have a coupon from their ExtraCare program to make my find even cheaper. Yesterday I went to CVS to pick up some pull-ups for the boy, and I came home with:

  • two packs of pull-ups (buy one, get one 50% off).
  • a refill for our bathroom wipes.
  • two candy bars (two for $1).
  • three Toy Story toys — Jessie, Woody & Bullseye and a Rex Hot Wheels (all 75% off).
  • On top of the in-store discounts, I had a coupon for $4 off a $20 purchase. I spent a total of $23 and change, and now I have an extra pack of pull-ups on hand and less shopping to do at Christmas.

If you haven’t signed up for the CVS “loyalty” card, I think you should do so. Our CVS has a neat little kiosk where you scan your card and it prints out coupons, and they almost always have something I need (like, um, Toy Story toys or candy bars. Hm…) on clearance.

So! Shopping at CVS: It works for me.
