Disappointment reigns

Remember that time when we were trying to potty train Poppy? It was horrible. Pete isn’t nearly as stubborn as his sister, so this morning hasn’t been quite so bad. But it’s left me with the same conclusion: I do not have what it takes to do the one-day training thing.

I know. I can’t believe I tried it again either. But I did, and there were lots of accidents, no successes and lots of tears (again). We’re cuddling and watching “Sesame Street” now, and neither of us is hysterical. Re-diapered Pete is much happier than he was half an hour ago, and I’m disappointed in myself and rather discouraged. But — silver lining! — at least I’m not cleaning up urine and crying.

Mom to the rescue

Yesterday afternoon I started to feel like I’d been hit by a truck. By the end of the day, I felt like it had backed up and run me over again. And again and again. (Thanks, allergies/horrible sinuses!)

It wasn’t the loveliest of Mother’s Days.

There is relief on the horizon, though. My mom was going to spend a few days with us later this week, and she’s decided to come early to help me out while I convalesce. Yay for moms!

Speaking of Mom, here’s my plan for what she’ll be making for dinner this week.*

Monday: Breakfast for dinner.

This is usually eggs and veggie sausages.

Tuesday: Black bean taquitos.

This is the first recipe we’re trying from Relish.

Wednesday: Chicken strips and mashed potatoes.

This was my favorite Mom-made meal growing up.

Thursday: Bean and kale soup.

I’ve never had kale before, and I wasn’t sure what it looked like. It’s frilly!

Friday: Pizza

*I’m really hoping to be better sometime soon, so maybe she won’t feel like she needs to make all the meals.

Planning ahead

Poppy, who is supposed to be having her quiet time: Mommy, I was thinking about what I wanted to be for next Halloween. I thought to myself, “Wait! I’ve got it!” And I decided I want to be Sleeping Beauty.

Me: Are you sure? You were Sleeping Beauty two years ago.

P: Oh. I’ll be Cinderella. And Petey can be the prince, and you and Daddy can be just plain Mommy and Daddy.
