Rockford don’t lose that number

Works-for-Me WednesdayRockford was in (or on his way to/from) Brazil for work for seven days last week. I’ve tried not to get too specific about exactly where we live here at Butterscotch Sundae, but I do feel comfortable sharing this: We’re far, far from the southern hemisphere. It was definitely the longest he’d been away from us, and I think it was probably the farthest away he’s been.

It was a tough week, but there was something that made it infinitely easier on all of us: We were able to talk to him nearly every day, despite the fact that he was on another continent. Before he left, we both signed up for Skype accounts. You can buy credits to use Skype with a phone, but we used the free computer-to-computer calls. The sound is incredibly clear, with only the very occasional hiccup. There’s also a video function, so Rockford was able to see the kids while they chatted. (He doesn’t have a webcam, so we weren’t able to see him. We’ll be remedying that!)

I’d rather he didn’t have to travel at all, but I know that when Rockford’s out of town Skype works so very well to keep us connected.

Mom to the rescue

Yesterday afternoon I started to feel like I’d been hit by a truck. By the end of the day, I felt like it had backed up and run me over again. And again and again. (Thanks, allergies/horrible sinuses!)

It wasn’t the loveliest of Mother’s Days.

There is relief on the horizon, though. My mom was going to spend a few days with us later this week, and she’s decided to come early to help me out while I convalesce. Yay for moms!

Speaking of Mom, here’s my plan for what she’ll be making for dinner this week.*

menubutton

Monday: Breakfast for dinner.

This is usually eggs and veggie sausages.

Tuesday: Black bean taquitos.

This is the first recipe we’re trying from Relish.

Wednesday: Chicken strips and mashed potatoes.

This was my favorite Mom-made meal growing up.

Thursday: Bean and kale soup.

I’ve never had kale before, and I wasn’t sure what it looked like. It’s frilly!

Friday: Pizza

*I’m really hoping to be better sometime soon, so maybe she won’t feel like she needs to make all the meals.

Planning ahead

Poppy, who is supposed to be having her quiet time: Mommy, I was thinking about what I wanted to be for next Halloween. I thought to myself, “Wait! I’ve got it!” And I decided I want to be Sleeping Beauty.

Me: Are you sure? You were Sleeping Beauty two years ago.

P: Oh. I’ll be Cinderella. And Petey can be the prince, and you and Daddy can be just plain Mommy and Daddy.
