I had to rule out ‘bubbles and squeak’

menubuttonMonday: Who knows? We were supposed to go out, but our smallest fry had stomach troubles all weekend. We haven’t had any issues so far this morning, but it’s highly unlikely that we’ll make it out. (Also: I’m sorry to have to mention bodily functions in a menu plan.)

Tuesday: Butternut squash ravioli. This remains the only vegetable Poppy will eat without a major fuss. (The only things she’ll eat with a major fuss are mashed potatoes and mashed sweet potatoes.)

Wednesday: Bangers and mash and corned beef and hash. I wasn’t entirely convinced that “bangers and mash” would be suitable St. Patrick’s Day fare, but if the Seattle Times says it, it must be true. Some friends are joining us, and they’re bringing the corned beef and hash.

Thursday: Sweet and sour pork

Friday: Pizza

He blinded me with science

Here’s what it’s like watching a TV show set in a lab — this time, “The Mentalist” — with Rockford:

  • “That’s a Centrific 225 centrifuge!”
  • “Ha ha! That’s either an MVE or CBS cryostorage tank! That’s one of their smaller vessels. I think MVE and CBS are the only ones that make the round ones like that.”
  • “That’s not deep-freeze. That’s just a refrigerator.”
  • “Some empty conical tubes in there. They did a nice job doing the set.”
