Friday links! It's a snow day!

  • I like a good LOLcat just as much as the next guy (unless the next guy happens to be Rockford, who is not amused), but I’ve never given it quite as much thought as Jay Dixit has, as he makes apparent in “I Can Has Cheezburger … and Pathos?
  • Obama’s doing fireside chats on the Youtube. It looks like this is going to be the first administration to really embrace the Internet. I’m interested to see what else they do, tech-wise.
  • Speaking of Obama, I’d briefly thought about going to DC for the inauguration. Rockford’s grandmother lives there, so we’d have a free place to stay. But then I read that they’re expecting to fill the mall. I get a little squanchy around big crowds, and 4 million people? No thank you.
  • I like Steely Dan. And so does Donald Fagen. (This one’s a little languagey.)
  • A group of smart, outspoken moms are discussing some interesting things over at Momversation. The most recent topic is about talking to your kids about the economy.
  • Real turkeys are not cute. But this one is.
  • I’ve been trying to avoid reading anything about the auto industry recently. My dad and several other family members have retired from or still work in the auto industry, and it’s stressing me out to think that they might lose their pensions. As usual, Sweet Juniper says it more eloquently than I can.
  • I didn’t realize the Sonics had left Seattle until a few weeks ago. One of their fans has been all too aware of it, though. He’s decided to fill the gap they left in his heart by becoming a free agent.
