Farewell, Mr. Limpet

There’s always been a special place in my heart for Don Knotts, and that little place hurt a little today when I read that he’d died. Here are a few reasons why:

  • “The New Scooby Doo Movies” (“The Spooky Fog” and “Guess Who’s Knott Coming to Dinner”)
  • “The Andy Griffith Show”
  • “The Incredible Mr. Limpet”
  • “The Ghost and Mr. Chicken”
  • “The Apple Dumpling Gang”
  • "Broken Flowers"

“Groundhog Day” to “Quick Change” to “Lost in Translation” to “The Life Aquatic,” I love Bill Murray. That being said, I’m ready for him to give up the midlife crisis schtick. I’d like to see him in another comedy a la “What About Bob” or the aforementioned “Groundhog Day.” I enjoyed the middle 30 minutes or so of “Broken Flowers,” but overall it was unsatisfying. I find that to be the case with most of the Jim Jarmusch movies I’ve seen. I get that his movies are supposed to be very cool and aloof, etc., but I’d really, really like a good ol’ fashioned ending. And I’m afraid Mr. Jarmusch just doesn’t know how to wrap it up.

    Now with 50% more Redford

A tiny, tiny portion of the Internet has spoken, and I hereby pledge to answer its call.

In 10 of the past 12 months, searches for some derivation of “The Candidate” have brought people to butterscotchsundae.com. I’m not sure why people lost interest in the movie in September and October 2005, although a “Robert Redford” did pull in someone in October, so I suppose that counts.

Our traffic isn’t so high around these parts, so I’m going to make an effort to mention “The Candidate” more often. Maybe I should try to get Rockford to write more movie reviews, too. The Internet loves movie reviews.
